why stewardship matters
We know that stewardship of our recreation areas is critical to the long term viability of our local economy and unique rural identity. Siskiyou Stewardship Corps is calling for a collaborative network of community groups who are willing to invest in stewarding the recreation areas that contribute to the health and wellbeing of communities from the impact of increasing tourism pressures. This vision aligns with the state of California's initiative to promote destination Destination Stewardship.
A destination stewardship approach is no longer an option for the travel and tourism industry in California and beyond. It's a necessity Industry.

Visit California on Destination Stewardship
“Destination stewardship is critically important to ensure California’s tourism economy remains an economic engine for all Californians. More people are traveling than ever before, and the tourism industry’s long-term viability depends on its ability to protect, preserve and promote the traveler experience.”
what is destination stewardship
The Global Sustainable Tourism Council defines Destination Stewardship as a “process by which local communities, governmental agencies, NGOs, and the tourism industry take a multi-stakeholder approach to maintaining the cultural, environmental, economic, and aesthetic integrity of their country, region, or town. In other words, to ensure that the destination retains and enhances the distinctive attributes that makes it attractive to beneficial tourism.” (www.gstcouncil.org)
