GRINDURO CALIFORNIA REGISTRATION IS OPEN!

ARE YOU READY FOR IT?!
GRINDURO CALIFORNIA REGISTRATION OPENS
AT 7PM ON DECEMBER 1ST!
BRING YOUR PARTY TO THE MOUNTAIN

Winter is about to set in here in far Northern California, but we're thinking of summer. Grinduro California returns to Mt. Shasta on August 10th for a weekend of maxin' and relaxin', riding and chillin', dipping in the lake and sipping cold beverages. We cannot wait to bring you a big weekend in our small mountain town.

Don't want to miss out on the fun? Then sit yourself down this evening because registration opens December 1st at 7:00pm Pacific!

YOU MAY BE WONDERING: WHY AUGUST? WASN'T MAY TERRIFIC?

Let us explain. This is the biggest Grinduro event in the world. Yeah, the world. And it’s put on by an organization with five employees. Bottom line – it’s expensive and we need a certain number or riders to make it possible. In the spring months there are simply too many events for riders to choose from, so: August.

The SORA staff believe that Grinduro can be great in the summer. We know that August in Mt. Shasta can be wonderful – remember, we are at 3,500’ on the shoulder of a glaciated mountain. We could see lovely 85-degree days with crystal clear blue skies and brisk lake water. Or it could be 95. Back in the day, the Summit Century drew up to 700 riders every August on a route that boasted four monster climbs (16,000’ of elevation on the Super Century) and more than 100 miles – on pavement. So we know riders are hardy enough to ride here in August.

The SORA team wants everyone involved at Grinduro California to have a spectacular time at this event. By everyone, we mean you, the riders, and also the more than 200 volunteers needed to put this event on, our tiny hard-working staff, our sponsors and our community. This event takes a big lift.

Our little town of 3,500 people puts on another epic event every summer – the Mt. Shasta 4th of July celebration (you should come). The Fun Run/Walk, also hosted by SORA, draws over 3,000 people. Many of the 200+ volunteers who make Grinduro possible also put on the Run/Walk. And those folks need a break between events. So while June or July would be great for Grinduro, we simply wouldn’t be able to raise the people-power needed to put it on. Our volunteers are amazing, but they're not invincible.

Thus, August: a time of swims in the lake, shade on the trails and lovely evenings, because it cools down well at night in the mountains. We're designing a course to keep you close to Lake Siskiyou and the Sacramento River so you can take a dip often as the day warms up. And you can expect all of the great things you've come to love from Grinduro in Mt. Shasta: sweet trails, a beautiful setting, friendly people and great times. We hope you’ll join us for an end-of-summer party that will leave you content and refreshed after a weekend of riding.

WHERE YOUR DOLLARS GO:
Grinduro California is produced by Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance, a non-profit organization with a tiny staff that lives in and around Mt. Shasta. SORA operates the Mt. Shasta Nordic Center, produces Grinduro and the Mt. Shasta 4th of July Fun Run/Walk and operates the Siskiyou Stewardship Corps. SORA supports maintenance and construction of trails in the Mt. Shasta area that benefit people of all ages, home-grown youth mountain bike programs, runners, hikers and equestrians. Our staff works with other (even smaller) non-profits and agencies to make great things happen in our small town. By registering, you are supporting SORA's work.
