volunteerism

Siskiyou County has a strong history of volunteerism in outdoor recreation development and stewardship efforts. By developing the SSC with a full-time lead crew member and SORA program coordinator, we can maximize volunteer efforts. Volunteer coordination and training can be a significant burden on local nonprofits, landowners, and management agencies—and establishing an SSC with paid staff will relieve some of this burden. Volunteer efforts will be directed to authorized, high priority projects and recreation areas of interest to community members and visitors. The purpose of this strategy is to attract a consistent stream of dependable volunteers and support projects that reflect community values and foster a sense of community accomplishment and pride.

Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance is committed to fostering equitable access to outdoor recreation and stewardship opportunities. We will focus on volunteer recruitment efforts that target youth, seniors, and people from diverse socioeconomic, racial, and cultural backgrounds. These efforts will include recruitment outreach through public and charter schools, community resource centers. We will offer a range of options to accommodate a diversity of volunteer needs and interests, including: •Family-friendly weekend workdays

•Options to work complete or half days

•If funding is available, fuel reimbursement
