Our Programs

Mt. Shasta Nordic Ski Organization and Mt. Shasta Runners (Mountain Runners) kicked the concept into motion by executing a merger in 2018.

The merged entity adopted a new name, Siskiyou Outdoor Recreation Alliance, while maintaining the existing Mt. Shasta Nordic and Mountain Runners projects.

Mt. Shasta Nordic

Mt Shasta Nordic is dedicated to supporting community health and well-being by providing groomed cross country ski trails and programs for a diverse population on the slopes of majestic Mount Shasta.

Mt. Shasta Nordic seeks those influence those who have yet to discover the joys and benefits of Nordic skiing. Our intention is to create, enhance, and preserve Nordic skiing opportunities for all ages and abilities. By facilitating participation in education programs, competitive events, and Nordic skiing as a fun, health-beneficial, aerobic activity, we aim to enhance the legacy of Nordic Skiing in our community.

EQUIPMENT LENDING LIBRARY

The SORA Equipment Lending Library system will make well-maintained outdoor recreational equipment available on a sliding scale or no-cost basis to serve low income and disproportionately impacted populations from the Siskiyou-Mount Shasta region. The intent of the program is to ensure youth and disabled people participating in outdoor recreation programs such as our local mountain biking skills programs, public and charter school programs, and the Mt. Shasta Adaptive Ski Program have equitable access to essential equipment so they can participate in the health and well-being inducing recreational activities offered through local programs.

Thousands of people enjoy Mt. Shasta's annual 4th of July Walk/Run. Mountain Runners spends nearly a year preparing for the morning event, while the community reaps rewards from the group's generosity year round. Through the history of the event, a large share of proceeds have been distributed to a diverse collection of local youth sports, nonprofit, and community groups whose activities and programs make our area vibrant.

In addition to sharing the proceeds, Mountain Runners has a long-standing tradition of funding a wide variety of community enhancement projects, including numerous beautification projects in downtown, the crowning jewel of which is Parker Plaza.
